Evening Speaker Series

Employment : The Gold Standard for Inclusion—The Family’s Role
Presenter: Ingrid Muschta, Diversity and Inclusion Specialist, Ontario Disability Employment Network

Come and learn about the rewards of working, planning early, and what families can do to ensure success!

Ingrid Muschta is a Diversity and Inclusion Specialist at Ontario Disability Employment Network. She will cover topics such as the importance of setting higher expectations, planning for work early and thinking of competitive employment as a viable option and the natural progression for people who have Down Syndrome once they leave the school system, similar to their peers without a disability!

She will be accompanied by two wonderful young ladies with Down syndrome, both currently holding part time jobs while attending school (one high school, the other college).

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and refreshments.

About the presenter:
Ingrid is a passionate advocate for people with disabilities. She has held key positions in the Executive Board of Directors for the parent-led Down Syndrome Association of Hamilton (DSAH) since 2013, first as a Sponsorship Coordinator and most recently as the Communications Director where she was pivotal in assisting DSAH reaching some impressive goals with community outreach, fundraising, and awareness promotion.

Ingrid’s vision for her son with Down syndrome is in-line with that of all parents. She has a vision her son will grow up in a society where people with disabilities will participate in formal higher education; that as citizens, they will be engaged in equal and meaningful employment; her vision is that they will access and contribute to decision-making processes, which directly impacts their lives, and they will be recognized as vibrant contributors to their communities.
